Scuba Diving Maui Kihei
Kihei to Makena
This area along the southwest coast of Maui, Kihei to Makena, is on the leeward or protected side of the island and was of course home to a large Hawaiian population before European contact, as evidenced by rock house sites on land and stone fishing sinkers underwater. The bottom is generally a very gradually sloping sand bottom with many volcanic outcroppings, ridges, small caves, archways, and pinnacles.
Maui Kihei Scuba Diving – Sea Life
Many of the caverns, ledges, and reefs are home to Hawaiian green sea turtles where they feed and find shelter. Because they have been protected since 1973 their numbers have greatly increased, and we see them on almost any of our coastal dives. The Makena turtles have seen enough divers to not feel unafraid, so divers can view them and photograph them up close. These areas are also the home to frogfish, different species of eels and beautiful endemic lionfish. Many small creatures such as shrimps, crabs, and nudibranchs can be found for macro photography, and we even see the occasional manta and eagle ray.
For those who wish to experience their first dive or returning divers seeking new sites, we offer expert Maui Kihei scuba diving for every kind of adventurer. Whether you’re seeking to explore the beauty of the seafloor or seeking out incredible sea life, Mike Severns Maui Kihei scuba diving has everything you’ll need to see it all!
